How Jawbone and BodyMedia may help Comcast crack the telehealth sector

Along with wondering if Verizon ( NYSE: VZ) will sell its wireline business to Google ( Nasdaq: GOOG) and if Comcast’s ( Nasdaq: CMCSAVIPER team is building a platform that will turn it into a virtual cable operator, I’ve been thinking a lot this week about that hypoallergenic rubber bracelet Brian Roberts had on his wrist at The Cable Show convention in June.

The Comcast CEO showed his  UP bracelet, which can track how many steps you take in a day and how well you sleep at night, near the end of his demonstration of Comcast’s X2 platform. Manufactured by Jawbone, whose investors include Comcast Ventures, the UP band was probably the most overlooked item at the convention. It was easy to miss (jump to 17:30 mark of this YouTube  video), as Roberts focused much of his presentation on X2’s  personalized program guide and voice-activated remote control.
